Life Story

1888: John James  "Jack" Pickup was born in Wigan, Lancashire, England.
1894: Elizabeth McHardy was born in Scotland.
1916 October 12: Elizabeth McHardy and John Pickup were married in British Columbia, Canada. (Canada Marriage Index)
1919: John and Elizabeth arrived in the United States at age 31.
1920: John and Elizabeth along with their family were living in Hanna, Wyoming.
1926 May 4: Elizabeth Pickup died in Hanna, Wyoming at age 31 of Puerpal Septicamia and buried in the Hanna Cemetery. (Wyoming Death Record)

1953: John Pickup died in Chicago, Illinois at age 65 and was buried in the Hanna Cemetery.
Elizabeth and John had 6 children together:

Note: “Billy” Pickup -William Alexander Pickup (known to all at Hanna as “Billy”) the 12 year old son of John Pickup, passed away on August 2 after a confinement which kept him in bed for several weeks. The funeral was held from the Catholic Church on Saturday, August 5, interment in Hanna Cemetery. Billy was born in Hanna May 20, 1921, and his father, a brother, John Jr., and two sisters, Freda and Betty, are left to mourn his loss.  (UPCCEM, September 1933)

Note: The community of Hanna was grieved to hear of the death of Mrs. J. J. Pickup on Tuesday, May 4th. Mrs Pickup was born in Scotland, July 17th, 1894. She was united in marriage to John J. Pickup at Trail, British Columbia, on October 12th, 1916, and came to Hanna in October, 1919, where she lived until her death. She was a devoted wife and mother and by her pleasant and kindly disposition made many friends since coming to Hanna. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters' Lodge, and also the Omara Santha, H. of A. No. 43. She leaves to mourn her death a husband, four small children: Jack, Alfreda, William and Betty Jane: also one brother in Trail, B. C., one brother in Vancouver, B. C., one brother and two sisters in Scotland. The funeral was held on Sunday, May 9th, at 3:30 P. M. at the residence. Services were conducted by the Pythian Sisters' Lodge, with Mr. S. L. Morgan of the Episcopal church assisting, and interment was made in the Hanna Cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the family in their sad bereavement. (UPCCEM June 1926)
