Ben and Jane Jose - Old Carbon

Page by Bob Leathers

Ben Jose immigrated from England and ended up in Carbon, Carbon, Wyoming. He lived and died in Carbon. In the picture below, Ben Jose is thought to be the man behind the counter in the back of the store. Jane Jose immigrated from Scotland and eventually married Ben. She worked in Ben's Cigar Store.
Ben Jose has a little store next to C. F. Johnson, and carries on a snug little business selling fruits, nuts, confectionary and toys. Ben has the misfortune to be deprived of his eye sight, but not-withstanding this affliction he manages to make a success of his life and has an excellent trade. (Wyoming and Its Future. Laramie City. Holiday Issue. 1887)
