1973 - 1987: Medicine Bow Coal Company's Medicine Bow Surface Mine at Hanna, Wyoming

The Medicine Bow Coal Company started development of the Medicine Bow surface mine in the Hanna Basin in 1973. It started production of coal in 1975. The mine produced coal for 12 years from 1975 to 1987. During that time the mine produced 15,806,976 tons of coal with peak employment in 1980 of 231 employees. The Medicine Bow mine was taken over by Arch in 1988. William Starr was killed at the Medicine Bow Mine in 1980.
