TonyTaccalone: Sgt. U.S. Army Air Cps., World War II
Tony Taccalone, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Taccalone of Hanna, entered the armed forces in October, 1941. Tony went to gunnery school at Kingman, Arizona, earned his gunners wings in May, 1944, and was assigned to a B-17 bomber as tail gunner. Tony went overseas in the month of August, 1944, and after completing 33 missions in Europe, he was sent back to the states in May, 1945. Tony is the proud possessor of six oak leaf clusters to his air medal, and was a member of the famed 94th Bomb Group which was cited by President Roosevelt for the historic bombing of the Muhlembau Aircraft Assembly plant at Brunswick, Germany. Tony received his discharge from the Army Air Forces at Santa Ana, California, in July, 1945, and is now employed by the Coal Company at Hanna, Wyoming. (UPCCEM, June 1946)
