Mike Mamounakis: Killed in the No. 4 Mine

Images and notes from Rae G. Goodrich and Becky Newman

Pictures and information from Rae Goodrich: "One picture is my Aunt Theano with her God parents, the other one is my Papou’s funeral. He was killed in 1921.  He’s buried in Hanna. He had seven children not six, he was killed when my mother was six months old." (Rae G. Goodrich)
Theano was the oldest child, she was born in 1913 in Hanna. Between 1913 and 1920 my Yiayia had seven children, my mother was born in 1920 and was six months old when Papou died in April of 1921. She moved to Helper, Utah another coal mining area I think to be near other Greeks from Crete. Theano stayed in Hanna with some Greek people until she was sixteen years old then a marriage was arranged for her. The tall guy at Papou’s funeral behind the casket was Harry Galanis who she married. She was only 4ft-9in tall and he was about 6ft 3in.  They moved to Rock Srings and they had one daughter called Gracie and then in 1935 she died during childbirth. (Rae G. Goodrich)
